Derek and Nerina Harborne
University Hospital (MUST) Mbarara, Uganda
They returned to Mbarara in July 2017 for their third term. Derek serves in the university hospital and Nerina lectures in biochemistry. They are both part of a wider Africa Inland Mission team based in Mbarara. Derek has been running a 3 year postgraduate course in Emergency Medicine which now has with 8 students who are making a clearly visible difference in the standard of care in the University Hospital Emergency Department. Nerina is teaching a masters course in biochemistry as well as covering an undergraduate course with a very large number of students. They are both closely involved with student cell groups at St Luke’s church, teaching practical biblically based discipleship. There has been an increasing awareness among Christian students of the opportunities for Ugandan professionals to spread the gospel in hard to reach areas through deliberately choosing to study as a postgraduate, or take a post, amongst people who would not otherwise be open to receive a conventional missionary.
Pray: For God to sustain them in their work & for the discipleship training to be fruitful.
