Jony and Jenny Bertin
Rector St Bartholomew’s Rosario Argentina
It's already been two years since they arrived back to Argentina after training for three years at Cornhill and Oak Hill. Since then, they moved to Rosario city where Jony became the rector of St Bartholomew's, a large old-fashioned 150 year-old brick building with small Anglican congregation in need of revitalisation. The mission for the church, based on Matthew 28:19-20, can be summarised in Evangelising, Establishing, Edifying and Equipping. The priority during the first year and a half has been the first two, Evangelising and Establishing, aimed at the regular and semi-regular members of the congregation, and doing this primarily through expository preaching and 1-2-1 discipleship. However, to become outwardly mission focused they would need a core group which is not only strongly Edified but also Equipped. Thinking mid-long term Jony is training several Anglican lay readers and youth leaders in expository preaching, but all from Buenos Aires, the lay readers traveling to Rosario once or twice a year to preach and the youth leaders giving talks in the context of the Diocesan youth camps in which they are heavily involved. Thinking more long term Jony is also teaching NT Greek to a handful of students and they are developing a NT Greek Workbook with Jenny. Apart from this, they are slowly starting a university ministry at St Bartholomew's with already Edified hands from a Reformed neighbour church, including a bible study on Romans for the core group which Jony is leading.
Pray: that God continues to work through the regular exposition of his word, that the right 1-2-1s might continue and deepen, that the training in expository preaching and NT Greek would be fruitful and that the university ministry might blossom.
